Aerial Lift Awareness (MEWPs) (E-SALT-E)

Description
Working at height presents significant risks, making proper training essential for anyone involved in the operation or supervision of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). This comprehensive Aerial Lift Awareness course provides learners with the knowledge needed to recognize hazards, understand regulatory requirements, and apply safe work practices when working with aerial lifts such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, personnel lifts, and telehandlers.

Throughout the course, participants will explore the different types of MEWPs and their appropriate applications while learning the competency requirements for safe operation. Key topics include conducting site hazard assessments, identifying common workplace hazards, performing thorough pre-use inspections, and understanding equipment stability and work zone safety. Learners will also gain practical knowledge of fall protection requirements, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe travel and operation, electrical safety, overhead hazard awareness, and safe fueling, battery charging, shutdown, and parking procedures. The course also highlights maintenance responsibilities, retraining requirements, and the importance of following manufacturer instructions, CSA standards, and applicable workplace legislation.

Designed to increase hazard awareness rather than replace hands-on operator certification, this training reinforces the critical safety principles that help prevent falls, tip-overs, contact with energized power lines, and other common incidents associated with aerial lift operation. Interactive knowledge checks throughout the course help reinforce learning and prepare participants to recognize and respond to workplace hazards with confidence.

This course is ideal for workers, supervisors, managers, health and safety representatives, and anyone who works around or is responsible for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms. It serves as an excellent foundation for promoting safer workplaces, reducing incidents, and supporting compliance with organizational safety programs and regulatory requirements.
